Contract on dredging works for Cargill/MV Cargo grain terminal signed in presence of Prime Minister

A contract on dredging works by and between Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA) and China Harbour Engineering company Ltd (CHEC) was signed on May 18 at Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers. The a.m. Company is known to have won the tender held on the Prozorro platform.

Ukraine’s Prime Minister Vladimir Groisman was in attendance at the contract execution ceremony. According to him the ports development directly influences the country’s economic situation and therefore is deemed a key priority by the government.

“I , personally , the government as a whole and Ministry of Infrastructure, first and foremost, will make every effort so as to see the project implemented promptly and competently.”

As a reminder, the dredging works will be performed in the Port of Yuzhny ( Odessa Region) with the aim to make the access channel to berths 23-25 – the venue for the grain terminal, which in its turn is a joint venture established by Cargill, a worldwide food and agriculture giant , and MV Cargo, Ukraine’s stevedoring company.

Andrey Stavnitzer, the MV Cargo founder, was also present at the contract execution ceremony. “While signing the contract the state acts as an impactful owner of the infrastructure. The funds invested by USPA in the project will be more than just compensated – millions in taxes and port dues gained by the state , thousands of jobs emerging. Thus today is a day of paramount importance not only to us but to the entire industry”, – commented Andrey Stavnitzer.

The new terminal is to become operational in March 2018. The prompt and quality dredging works are critically needed to timely commission the terminal. The terminal construction was launched in the summer of 2016. As of today the terminal completion rate accounts for 40%. The terminal is constructed in compliance with and abidance by the Cargill standards.
